Salt & Light’s unique and innovative social entrepreneurship model addresses chronic food insecurity and access to other basic needs while building on the strengths of individuals and families. Through their credit system, participants earn minimum wage in store credit by volunteering at area nonprofits. In their grocery and thrift store, this credit can be used to purchase everything from food and basic home and healthcare needs to clothing, household items or even furniture. Open to the whole community, the store creates jobs, while revenue from purchases funds the credit – buying groceries for your family at Salt & Light, helps someone feed theirs.
